But what is the difference between sheet, hydrogel, and freeze-dried masks and what are their individual benefits?

Sheet Masks: The Hydration Station

Sheet masks are typically made from cotton, microfiber, or sometimes bio cellulose, a natural bacterial cellulose fibre. These masks act like a sponge soaked in a serum loaded with active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, antioxidants, and

peptides. When applied, the sheet creates an occlusive environment on the skin, which means it locks in moisture and prevents the water from evaporating. This occlusion significantly boosts skin hydration; studies show skin moisture can improve by up to 40% in just 15 to 20 minutes of wearing a sheet mask.

Because the sheet sits directly on the skin, it increases the contact time of the concentrated ingredients with the skin surface, enhancing absorption compared to regular serums or creams.
